Materials and Technique
The print is produced as a museum-quality giclée in two equally considered forms: on 300 g/m² fine art paper and on canvas.
Giclée is a high-quality inkjet process employing archival pigment inks. On paper it delivers exceptional colour accuracy, the finest detail and a crystalline surface. On canvas the same pigments settle into the weave, quietly echoing the presence and depth of the original painting. Both versions are made to last for decades.
I offer several carefully chosen sizes. Custom formats are always possible — simply reach out through the Contacts section.
The Secret of the Mermaid is a metaphor for the hidden part of human nature — the desires, instincts, impulses, and emotional depths we try to discipline in order to fit within the boundaries created by society, relationships, and our own self-control.
The mermaid in this work is not portrayed as a mythical seductress, but as a symbol of the untamed inner self. Suspended underwater inside a transparent structure, she exists between freedom and restraint, instinct and awareness. The glass-like boundaries surrounding the figure resemble an emotional architecture: invisible limits we build around ourselves to contain what feels too wild, too vulnerable, or too honest to reveal openly.
The composition creates a tension between silence and movement. The flowing hair, the suspended body, the glowing underwater atmosphere — all suggest an inner force that continues to exist beneath calm surfaces. Rather than depicting suppression as something tragic, the work reflects the complex beauty of self-awareness: the human ability to coexist with desire without destroying oneself through it.
The monochromatic blue palette intensifies the meditative and psychological atmosphere of the painting. Deep cobalt blue, ultramarine shadows, luminous white reflections, cool aqua tones, and soft oceanic gradients create a sense of depth, stillness, and emotional immersion. Light moves through the water like memory or subconscious thought, revealing fragments while keeping the full truth hidden.
This artwork invites the viewer to reflect on the delicate balance between authenticity and control. Is our “wild” nature something to hide, or something to understand and integrate? Perhaps true harmony is not the absence of inner storms, but learning how to live peacefully with them.
The limited edition is offered in two equally considered forms: on fine art paper, where the light remains precise and fragmentary, and on canvas, whose weave quietly holds the depth of the blue and the presence of the original painting. Both carry the same tension between freedom and restraint, the same unspoken question.
