Blue surrounds everything here — not a bright, inviting blue, but something deeper and heavier, the kind that presses in a little, the way real water does when you go under and stop being sure which way is up.

Across the shoulder, down the spine, along the length of an outstretched arm, thin lines of white cut through the dark. They look almost like electricity, or like something glowing from underneath the skin — as if whatever this figure has been carrying inside her has finally started to show.

The hand says the most. Fingers open, not clenched — reaching, but not desperate. Most people know this feeling somewhere in their own life: that moment right before you let yourself want something, when your body moves before you've fully decided to. Above her, the surface breaks into fractured light, close enough to make out, still far enough to require some trust before she gets there.

Her face is turned slightly to the side — not away from us, more like she's listening for something. That's the real tension in this piece: she's not panicked, and she's not at peace either. She's caught in that in-between place — ready to rise, but not rushing it. Anyone who has ever stood at the edge of a decision they already knew they were going to make will recognize this exact feeling.

It's a quiet, familiar kind of ache — the one you feel in the pause before finally reaching for something you've wanted for a while. Most people carry it without ever finding the words for it. This piece gives it a shape instead.
