Between “Not Yet” and “Never” explores a state of inner suspension — a subtle, often unnoticed interval where a decision is already possible, yet still unmade. It exists in the space between action and refusal, between awareness and the habit of remaining within familiar limits.
The scissors become a symbol of choice and freedom, positioned within reach but left unused. The restraint depicted is not merely physical; it is psychological. The figure holds itself back, turning a potential exit into an added weight rather than a release. The work reflects how we unconsciously extend moments of waiting, allowing “not yet” to slowly transform into “never.”
At the center of the composition are female hands bound with a rich red fabric, from which metal scissors hang. The gesture of the hands is open, yet inactive — palms facing upward in a quiet, almost resigned acceptance. The scissors rest just below the wrists, already accessible but still untouched.
The figure partially dissolves into a deep, dark background, creating a sense of isolation and an enclosed inner space. The absence of a face amplifies the universality of the image: this is not a portrait of an individual, but of a shared human condition.
The vertical composition emphasizes tension — the pull between upward movement and the gravitational force of familiar inertia.
